Phaltan Satara

Phaltan is situated on the Solapur – Satara border. The major part is dry. The canal across river Nira has provided a boon to 1/3 land in Phaltan. Nira river originates on the hills of Sitamai. River Banganga also flows through Phaltan. There are many beautiful temples like the Rammandir, Dyadneshwar Mandir, and Saint Uplekar Maharaj Samadhi Mandir are also situated here.

Jabreshwar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated in the heart of the city. In December and during the festival of Ramnavmi the Idols of Rama and Sita are kept in huge Chariots and a grand procession is taken out in the town. This is a major attraction for the Devotees. The annual procession of Ashadiekadashi to Pandharpur goes through 3 villages of Phaltan. These three villages are Taradgaon, Phaltan, and Barad.

It is also regarded as the Kashi for the Mahaanubhavi sect. There is a temple of Abasaheb in the city. Every year in April a huge fair is organized here. This fair or “Jatra” is famous for Horse Trading, a large number of Horses are sold in this market. People from other states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana visit this place during the fair.

Jawali is situated 23km east of Phaltan. A huge temple of Siddanath or Jawalnath is situated in Jawali which is also a family deity of many people in Maharashtra.

15km east of Phaltan is Dhumalwadi famous for its waterfalls. A beautiful temple of Lord Dattatray is situated on the Phaltan – Lonand highway.

There are 5 major education institutes in Phaltan. Recently the Phaltan education society celebrated its Golden jubilee. There is a total of 17 colleges under this trust in Phaltan. These colleges provide competitive courses to many students. Shri Ram Education Society was established in 1959. Many colleges are run by this trust in rural areas. Maratha Shikshan Mandal and Girni Education Society are the other important institutions providing education in rural areas with 34 colleges providing modern and technical education. There is also an Agriculture college at this place.

Two major Sugar Factories are situated in Phaltan. New Phaltan Sugar Works and Shri Ram Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana are also situated here.
Phaltan was a simple princely state. The Naiknimbalkars ruled Phaltan, still, this family has a prominent presence in Phaltan. Shri Ram Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana was founded by the ruler of Phaltan Shri Malojiraje Naiknimbalkar.

Dr. Raytas Choclate factory is also situated in Phaltan. Phaltan is also an industrial place where small industries like Sairaj Foods Products, and Govind Milk Products are not only doing good business but has also provided employment to local people.

Ram Rath Yatra in Phaltan
