Ajinkyatara Fort Satara

Ajinkyatara meaning “The Impregnable Star” is a fort on one of the seven mountains surrounding the city of Satara in the Sahayadri Mountains of Maharashtra, India. Constructed in the 16th Century. In 1708, Shahu Maharaj won Ajinkyatara and remained with the Marathas till 1818. The Ajinkyatara fort is a major historic place in Maharashtra and was very vital as one could keep watch of entire South Maharashtra.

Ajinkyatara fort now also holds the television tower for the city of Satara. This fort has been the place where several pivotal moments in Maratha history took place. The fort which is located in Ajinkyatara Mountain is around 3,300 feet high and since the fort is located at a higher altitude the visitors can view the magnificent view of Satara city. Inside the fort, there are several water tanks for storing water So, so there is no scarcity of water even as the fort is in the higher place
Visitors can also visit the temples of Devi Mangalai, Lord Shankar, and Lord Hanuman on the northeast side of the fort. Nandgiri and Chandan-Vandan forts on the east and Jarandeshwar and Yawateshwar hills on the west can also be seen from the fort.

How to visit the fort – : Vehicles reach upto the base of the fort . Satara is well connected by rail and road by state transport busses and shared mahindra jeeps from Satara bus depot.
